OM System 90mm Macro Lens Underwater Review
Watch our firsthand Field Test review for the OM System 90mm Macro Lens. The OM System 90mm Macro Lens provides an all new, greater focal length to use on micro four thirds sensor and lens mount cameras than was previously available. What does this mean for underwater photographers, and what makes it cool? Watch our video interview and read the review to see why this might just be the most exciting new underwater macro lens! Olympus is now OM System. OM System and Olympus products are fully compatible with each other. The OM System 90mm Macro Lens makes it possible to shoot smaller critters from farther away than ever before on a micro four thirds camera.OM System OM-1 | OM System 90mm Macro Lens | AOI UCL-09 PRO Lens | 1/250 | ISO 100 | ƒ22More Working Distance Get more space between you and your subjects. The OM System 90mm Macro Lens allows for greater working distance from the subject to minimum focus distance of the lens compared to other macro optics. This means less chance to spook your subject and better odds of nailing the shot. It creates a working distance that is closer to that of a 90mm or 105mm macro lens on a full frame sensor than what we have been used to with 60mm macro lenses on micro four thirds sensor. 2 to 1 Macro Magnification & Beyond Make teeny tiny subjects look larger than life. With a maximum 2 to 1 reproduction ratio, the OM System 90mm Macro Lens creates up to double life size images for an insane amount of detail in your images. Most other macro lenses require an external diopter or wet-mount macro conversion lens to achieve this level of magnification, and those are significantly harder to focus through for any camera as opposed to just using the native lens. This lens gives you all the pros and none of the cons in that regard. We were able to achieve a whole new level of detail when shooting with a AOI UCL-09 PRO +12.5 diopter for greater than 2:1 magnification. The detail is so sharp you can even tell that this blenny needs a trip to the dentist! This image is uncropped from the camera, showing the most optical magnification.OM System OM-1 | OM System 90mm Macro Lens | 1/200 | ISO 80 | ƒ22We shot this example series to show the power of the lens at 2:1, 2:1 with a SAGA +5 diopter, and 2:1 with an AOI UCL-09 PRO +12.5 diopter for three different levels of magnification. Images uncropped from camera.OM System OM-1 | OM System 90mm Macro Lens | 1/250 | ISO 80 | ƒ22Excellent Autofocus Performance Lock in razor sharp focus with super fast speed and accuracy. We tested the OM System 90mm Macro Lens on a number of cameras, including the OM System OM-1 and Olympus E-PL10. The results left us stoked with how fast, accurate, intelligent, and responsive the autofocus was. It snapped right to where we wanted it with minimal hunting or lag time. Fast subjects that dart around are no problem for the fast autofocus of the OM System 90mm Macro Lens on the OM System OM-1.OM System OM-1 | OM System 90mm Macro Lens | 1/1,600 | ISO 200 | ƒ5More Controls Customize operation to your preferences with the limit switch and L-Fn button. It also has a limit switch to restrict the focal range to just the size of subject that you want to shoot for optimal speed and performance within that range. The customizable L-Fn button allows you to toggle between auto and manual focus to easily switch on the fly underwater (with an underwater port that supports this control). Who Is This Lens For? This is the ultimate macro lens for micro four thirds camera users. It allows the shooter to create up to 2 to 1 macro magnification for greater than life size levels of detail without the need to focus through a challenging-to-use diopter. The speed and performance are great and will hold up to even the most demanding photographers. The operation and functions allow for all the control we could ever ask for from a lens. This is a must-buy for the macro junkie with a micro four thirds camera.
