Arri Alexa Mini Underwater Camera & Nauticam Housing Review

Nauticam Arri Alexa Mini Chat With Matt Arri’s legendary precision and quality is on display with the Alexa Mini and the 8R, Arri’s rectilinear 8mm lens. Combined with Nauticam’s underwater housing for the Alexa Mini it is one of the top digital cinema underwater systems available. When considering digital cinema systems for underwater use the Arri Alexa Mini ranks in at the top of the list. Image quality with the Mini utilizes the tried and true Alexa sensor in combination with Arri’s color science and processing providing low noise and stellar true to life color. 60P in Apple ProRes makes it a quick turn around from out of the camera and into the editing system. The gearing in the Nauticam Alexa Mini housing is the smoothest smooth and most precise we have felt in an underwater housing. The adjustability of the handle positions allows the operator to locate the optimum spot for monitoring and easy access to the lens and camera controls. Our favorite feature is the trim adjustment on the housing. With a little trim weight mounted to the sled under the housing you can quickly and easily adjust the housing from a neutral position to nose up or nose down, great for getting those POV over the reef shots or the straight up under the kelp canopy tracking shot. No need to fight the housing just push it through the water and let the camera do the rest.
