You can help inspire the next generation of underwater explorers and photographers via our partnership with Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) & Catalina Sea Camp. These programs are operated by Guided Discoveries, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) committed to advancing outdoor STEM educational experiences for children since 1978. Donating your equipment that you no longer need or have trouble selling could provide a tax write-off while helping children improve their underwater imaging skills. Backscatter is a direct supporter of CIMI & Catalina Sea Camp. We admire the program’s mission to ‘make a positive difference in the lives of children through unique opportunities of discovery’ and several of our staff have worked there over the years. How to donate your equipment To start the process: email a list of items you wish to donate indicating the condition (pristine/good/fair) along with photos of each item to andrew@gdi.org subject line: u/w imaging for approval. Please note the kids program is unable to use non-functional or technologically outdated equipment. Generally speaking equipment 10 years old or newer should be usable by the program. Once you receive an email confirmation ship your gear to: Guided Discoveries Attn: Development/Andrew 27282 Calle Arroyo San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675 After receiving your items, they will immediately provide you with an official donation letter for tax purposes.
