An ultra-wide-angle lens opens up a world of boundless, unique options across countless shooting scenarios. Its expansive field of view makes it ideal for capturing the intensity of action sports, where every twist and turn can be framed with dramatic perspective. For extreme close-up action, the lens brings subjects into sharp focus while showcasing their surroundings in a bold, immersive way. Mounted on remote cameras, it delivers dynamic coverage from unique vantage points. When paired with a compatible underwater housing, it can transform your underwater photography into breathtaking imagery of aquatic compositions. From sweeping landscapes and dazzling starscapes to time-lapse and video, this lens excels at creating depth and drama. It's also a great option for monocular virtual reality content, offering the ultra-wide perspective needed to craft fully immersive experiences. Wherever creativity takes you, this lens ensures your vision is captured with impact and originality.
Zoom Range
Go from a fully circular 190º image at 7mm to a frame-filling 180º image at 14mm on a full-frame camera.
Build Quality
This lens is equipped with advanced technologies such as dust and weather resistance, fluorine coating, Air Sphere Coating, and premium L-Series optics featuring two replica aspherical lenses and five UD elements, delivering exceptional performance and reliability for demanding creators. Its dust- and weather-resistant construction ensures dependable operation in harsh environments. At the same time, the fluorine coating helps repel moisture, oils, and fingerprints, making maintenance easier and imagery clearer. Canon's Air Sphere Coating effectively minimizes flare and ghosting, preserving contrast and color accuracy even when shooting toward strong light sources. The combination of precision aspherical elements and UD glass within the L-Series optical design provides outstanding sharpness, reduced chromatic aberration, and consistent image quality from edge to edge. Together, these features give photographers a rugged, high-performance tool engineered for both artistic exploration and professional-grade results.
Tame the Light with Filters
Adding a filter to the front of this lens is nearly impossible due to the lens curvature. However, since balancing your exposure is so important with this lens, it can use the same drop-in filters (Clear, CPL, V-ND) as the EF-to-EOS R mount adapter, so you can achieve the look you're after.
Top Improvements vs. Previous Canon EF-Mount Fisheye Zoom Lenses
Superior Image Quality
A new optical design in the RF-mount 7-14mm fisheye zoom lens. Five UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass elements, two Aspheric elements, and extensive application of Canon's specialized ASC (Air Sphere Coating) mean not just sharp images, but reduced color fringing — especially at the outer edges of images and video — and less lens flare, when it's aimed at the sun or other bright light sources. Image Quality is a strong reason to consider this 7-14mm fisheye zoom lens.
190° Circular Fisheye Coverage
Wider coverage than any competitive AF fisheye zoom for full-frame cameras, at the 7mm circular fisheye zoom setting. Whether being used for creative imagery, astro photography, or anything else, circular fisheye users will have the world's widest (190°) circular fisheye coverage available.
Drop-in Rear Filters
Since fisheye lenses can't accept ordinary screw-in filters at the front of the lens, the RF7-14mm fisheye zoom lens offers a slot on the rear of the barrel for drop-in filters. The standard clear filter can be easily swapped for an optional variable neutral density (ND) filter or a user-adjustable circular polarizing drop-in filter. Either adds to the lens's flexibility for still or video imagery. And they offer both durability and quick filter changes. These are the same drop-in filters as previously used in Canon's Drop-in Filter Lens Mount Adapter EF–EOS R.
Autofocus and Auto Exposure
This sounds like an expected feature in modern lenses; however, many third-party fisheye lenses for Canon offer only manual exposure and aperture control. The RF7-14mm fisheye zoom, however, can be used in the same way users would work with more conventional RF-mount lenses, and any exposure mode can be used as desired.
Incredibly Short Minimum Focus Distance
Close-up imagery becomes even more powerful with the 7-14mm fisheye zoom lens. It focuses down to 5.9 inches (0.15m), at the full diagonal fisheye setting (14mm zoom setting). This can mean even stronger imagery when the lens is positioned close to the primary subject. And keep in mind: like all official specs for minimum focus distance, this is measured from the image sensor to the subject, not from the front of the lens.
Excellent Video Functionality
We've already discussed the option for drop-in filters — especially important for video users is the availability of variable ND filters to achieve precise video exposure and shutter speeds in bright light. Another video-centric feature is reduced-focus breathing, built into the optical system of the 7-14mm fisheye zoom lens. As the lens is focused, out-of-focus areas remain consistent in size, whether in the foreground or the background. And, as mentioned, autofocus remains fully available during both video and still operation.
AF-Stop Button
Yet another customizable button, to join those on most EOS R-series camera bodies. Set your camera up to instantly access many features when the lens's AF-stop button is pressed. It's in a handy location on the lens barrel, making it easy to make quick function changes — or, as originally intended, to lock Servo AF whenever the user presses the button.
Get Closer
With a minimum focus distance of just 5.9 inches, photographers can get dramatically close to their subjects while still capturing the sweeping 180°/190° perspective these lenses are made for. Being able to focus this near creates striking, immersive images where foreground details appear exaggerated and incredibly sharp, while the background curves away in a signature fisheye distortion. This ultra‑close capability is especially useful for creative storytelling—whether highlighting textures, emphasizing scale, or crafting dynamic compositions in tight spaces. It also enables unique macro‑style wide‑angle shots, giving photographers more freedom to experiment with perspective, depth, and visual impact.
Control Freak
This new lens puts intuitive control right at your fingertips, empowering creators to work faster and with greater precision. A customizable Lens Function Button lets you instantly access your preferred settings, giving you quick command over key shooting tools without taking your eye from the viewfinder. The Zoom Limit/Lock switch provides added versatility—allowing you to set a zoom range for consistent framing or lock the lens in place to prevent unwanted movement during transport or shooting. Rounding out the experience, the programmable Control Ring offers tactile, customizable adjustment of settings such as aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation, delivering a seamless, professional workflow that adapts to your creative style.
Virtually There
The extreme wide-angle nature of this lens is perfectly suited to creating 2D Monoscopic VR content, and it includes built-in support for the Canon EOS VR System application to create such content.
Focus Breathing
By using a rear focus design that minimizes focus breathing—preventing the angle of view from shifting as you refocus—the lens delivers remarkably stable framing. This gives filmmakers smooth, professional-looking results in every shot, despite the lack of support for in-camera focus-breathing compensation.
Stay in Focus
An incredibly unique feature for this kind of ultra-wide-angle lens is autofocus, which this lens offers. Just because you choose to capture your images with a unique, expressive angle does not mean you should have to give up anything, especially something as important as autofocus when shooting fast action like sports.
Powered by a lead‑screw type STM and the same advanced position‑detecting sensor used in Canon's Nano USM technology, this lens delivers impressively quick start‑up and instant responsiveness. The STM system provides smooth, precise control with effortless start‑and‑stop performance, all within a streamlined, reliable mechanical design. The result is fast, accurate autofocus for still photography and beautifully smooth, whisper‑quiet AF for video—giving creators the confidence to capture every moment with professional polish.
