Still Photo and Time-lapse Photo modes remain the same but are now joined by a new Continuous Photo mode that captures continuous 12MP stills at a steady 3, 5, or 10 photo-per-second rate, up to 30 photos at a time.

Redesigned Audio System

Also improved is GoPro's already famous wind-noise reduction, ensuring that you'll hear more of your passion, be it your engine or expletives, and less of the wind during high speed activities.

Built-in Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi Remote Included)
The HERO3 Black Edition features built-in Wi-Fi and includes GoPro's Wi-Fi Remote accessory. The Wi-Fi Remote is normally available as a $79.99 accessory but is included with the HERO3: Black Edition. The Wi-Fi Remote is waterproof, wearable and can control up to 50 Wi-Fi-enabled GoPros at a time from a range of 600'. The HERO3's built in Wi-Fi means it can also be controlled by iOS or Android smartphones and tablets running the GoPro App. The GoPro App enables full camera control and live scene preview on any compatible iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.

The HERO3: Black Edition is compatible with all GoPro mounting accessories and older generation BacPacs along with the newer generation LCD Touch BacPac and 2nd generation Battery BacPac. However, as all HERO3 cameras have a new size and shape they require HERO3-specific Wrist, Skeleton and 3D housings so be sure to check for HERO3 compatibility when purchasing any new housing accessories.

Snap lock a lens or filter with just one finger

The hinged design of the Backscatter Flip3 offers the ultimate solution for above and below water shooting. Other designs use internal gel filters that require you to break the factory sealed lens and can't be removed for above water shooting. Other press-on filters can be removed, but are easily lost or damaged and frequently require multiple hands to install. Filters on the Backscatter Flip3 can be flipped out of the way with just one finger and lock into on / off positions with a positive snap.

We've taken our world renowned GoPro Flip2 filter design and made it even better. The Backscatter test team has spent the last 3 months testing an exciting new filter formula in a variety of real world conditions around the globe. "Blue water" is a moving target
Blue water comes in many flavors around the world. From the gin clear waters of the Bahamas to the blue-green waters of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, each region has its own signature color. Add the effects of weather, tides, shallow depths, and deep depths to these regional variations and you end up with a very broad definition of "blue water." The Backscatter test team has shot countless hours of footage in all conditions around the globe to redefine the ultimate universal blue water filter formulas.

Not all GoPro cameras are created equal
We discovered early on that individual GoPro Hero1 and Hero2 cameras have a different color bias underwater. One Hero2 camera might shift yellow and another Hero2 might shift green. The same is true with the Hero3. The Backscatter test team has gone to extraordinary lengths to evaluate multiple copies of both the Hero2 and Hero3 cameras in every situation with our new protype designs. We're confident our tweaked and re-tweaked formulas will not only best match "typical blue water conditions" but also harmonize with the variations in GoPro cameras.
