Donate Your Used Underwater Camera Equipment - Get a Tax Write Off! - Underwater Photography

For many years, Backscatter customers have donated their used underwater camera equipment to the marine science program at the University of California Santa Cruz. It has been an incredibly successful program. Backscatter customers get a tax write off on equipment they no longer need or have trouble selling. Budding marine biologists get access to equipment and training they could otherwise not afford. Most importantly, we here at Backscatter know the equipment is indeed getting used and maintained with the oversight of UC Santa Cruz diving safety officer Steve Clabuesch who was a long time Backscatter staffer. Get a tax write off for your donation Many Backscatter customers have discovered that a tax write off is more beneficial than selling their used camera equipment. Simply email your list of items to UC Santa Cruz to get the ball rolling. After receiving your items, they will immediately provide you with an official donation letter for tax purposes. About the UC Santa Cruz Scientific Diving Program UCSC's Scientific Diving Program manages and supports 150 science divers, the majority of which are undergraduate and graduate students. These divers make over 2500 dives each year, collecting data for their various sub-tidal research projects. The Diving Safety Program also trains up to 30 new science divers each year, running these divers through over 100 contact hours of training, which includes 16 ocean dives under various conditions. Their training goal is to prepare divers to do underwater work while maintaining safe diving practices. An important aspect of underwater research is documentation of the work through imaging. Through donations to the program, they have been able to give your used imaging equipment a second life by putting this gear into the hands of scientific divers. The program accepts all types of underwater imaging equipment Nikonos & RS camera systems and lenses, housed film and digital SLRs, housed point and shoot digital systems, housed video systems, SLR camera bodies, SLR lenses, video cameras, video lights, strobes, trays and arms if you have it and are not using it they will take it. You get a tax deduction for your donation and students get the benefit of using equipment that they cannot afford a true win-win situation. Currently they are especially interested in Nikon D70 bodies, Nikon wide angle and macro lenses, Sony TRV-900 video cameras, trays, arms and strobes to compliment some recently donated equipment.
