It's a 4K revolution! Now consumers can shoot cinematic 4K video with the Panasonic GH4. Compatible with lenses from previous models of Panasonic GH, GF or GX cameras and also Olympus OMD and PEN series cameras, the GH4 has endless options to showcase his cinematic viewpoint.
Ultra HD 4K—4 Times the Resolution of HD
The GH4 can record video in Ultra HD at a resolution of 3840x2160 30p/24p or 4096x2160 24p. Standard HD resolution is only 1920x1080p—making 4K 4 times the resolution of HD. This is why you might also hear 4K referred to as "quad HD". The GH4 is the only mirrorless or SLR camera to offer on board 4K 30p video recording directly to an SD card—no bulky external recording units required. If you haven't seen 4K footage on a 4K TV, do yourself a favor and go to your local electronics store—you will be blown away!
Great Post Production Options—Even if you don't have a 4K TV
Even if you don't have a 4K display at home yet, 4K footage scaled down to 1080p looks noticeably sharper. Shooting in 4K will also give you plenty of editing options. You can have a very large area available for post production image stabilization. Another great benefit of the increased resolution is being able to significantly crop in post to get tighter shots without dropping resolution below 1080p. With the prices of 4K TVs now running at the price of HD TV's from just a few years ago, 4K will be in reach without breaking the bank.
Awesome 1080p Options Too
The GH4 is the only mirrorless or SLR camera that has 1920x1080 60p and 1920x1080 96p. 96p can be slowed down 4 times to 24p and result in super slow smooth motion. The 1080p options can be recorded at a bit rate up to 200 Mbps ALL-I allowing for less compression and more latitude in post processing and color editing.
File Size Comparable to Canon 5D Mark III
Even with 4 times the resolution and a bit rate of 100mbps, the file sizes are comparable to video shot in 1080p on the Canon 5D Mark III. You'll still be able to travel with standard portable hard drives without the need to carry around giant desktop sized external drives.
Fast Memory Cards Required for 4K Recording
Due to the increased bandwidth of 4K and high bit rate recoding, a SDXC UHS-II card is required to shoot 4K video and the higher bit rates of 1080p recording. Other SD cards can be used for stills and lower bit rate video, but will not be compatible with 4K.
The Nauticam GH3 housing is fully compatible with GH4 by upgrading the mode dial of the housing.
Fits in the Nauticam GH3 Housing
The GH4 will fit in the GH3 housing and has full functionality with the exception of the mode dial. There is an inexpensive user installable part that will allow Nauticam GH3 housing owners to upgrade their mode dial to have full functionality.
All New Nauticam GH4 Housing on the Way
Despite the fact that the GH4 fits in the GH3 housing, Nauticam is completely redesigning the housing for the GH4. It will have improved ergonomics with better access to AF-ON and ISO controls. The design philosophy will be similar to that of the Nauticam E-M1 with attached handles and improved access to controls. Stay tuned to our newsletter and website for updates on pricing and availability of the Nauticam GH4 housing.

Easy Upgrade for Micro 4/3 users
For anyone who has an Olympus OMD or PEN series camera, or a previous model Panasonic GH, GF, or GX series 4/3 camera, you will be able to use your existing lenses on the new Panasonic GH4. The small size of the camera and housing make it an easy transition to have as a secondary backup rig in your underwater shooting arsenal.
Don't Forget about the Stills
With all the great video options it's east to forget that the GH4 is also a fully capable stills camera with a 16 MP sensor. The flash sync speed has been improved to 1/250 over the 1/160 previously on the GH3—which makes it much easier for pulling in darker blue water backgrounds. Dynamic range and ISO sensitivity have increased. Continuous shooting speed has doubled to an amazing 12 frames per second in RAW. All these improvements make the Panasonic GH4 one of the most exiting and versatile cameras to come out this year.
